In search of the leaders: Accelerating the pace of change

The Building Safety Act was enacted in April 2022.  At its heart, a new building safety regime for the construction industry to address many of the failings that were highlighted by the Grenfell Inquiry following the Grenfell incident in 2017 and the recommendations issued on what needs to be done to address this.  Government will respond to the Inquiry recommendations shortly and it is likely that in addition to the plethora of regulatory changes that have happened and are in train there will be further change across much of the safety regimes.

With Regulator oversight there are many issues that the industry and those working in it must address and that process is already in train and both through the regulatory changes and emphasis on ensuring that we do not have a repeat of Grenfell.

This is not about waiting to be told what to do.  Industry and Government are clear that the priorities required to deliver a culture change across the many facets of the industry is a challenge that simply must be met and the regulatory process in key to underpinning this into law.
