Grenfell’s Legacy Reflect and Progress Conference
Description
Safety and quality, or rather the failure of safety and quality, is arguably the most important issue facing the construction industry today. Several years on from the tragic events at Grenfell Tower, there have been many considerable developments in building safety legislation at both the UK and Scottish government levels.
This conference discusses building and fire safety developments across the sector. Beginning with a keynote presentation from CIOB Past President Paul Nash on building safety legislation, the event covers building safety developments from several perspectives. A series of expert speakers discuss policy development on cladding remediation in Scotland, new modern methods of fire safety, early detection of defects, technology solutions and construction law. Presentations are followed by a Q&A session with our panel of experts.
Speakers and Panellists:
- Paul Nash, CIOB Past President: Paul is Chair of the CIOB’s Quality Implementation Group and in 2017 he chaired the working group on procurement as part of the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety led by Dame Judith Hackitt.
- Jocelyne Fleming, CIOB Policy & Public Affairs Officer – Scotland: Leading on the CIOB’s policy and public affairs work in Scotland, Jocelyne provides an update on the CIOB’s engagement on the Housing (Cladding Remediation) (Scotland) Act, Single Building Assessments, what is on the horizon for Scotland’s cladding remediation programme and wider building safety policies.
- Roy Buckingham, ASSA Abloy: Roy discusses electrically controlled fire and escape doors designed to provide protection from fire and limit the spread of flames.
